We are delighted to welcome Marco A. Schmid as our new Head of Ventures. With his many years of experience in growth, internationalization, and project management, he will drive the business development of our ventures.

In Conversation with Marco Schmid

What motivated you to take on the role of Head of Ventures at Deep Impact?

This story has probably been in the making for quite some time. Our paths have crossed multiple times in the past, and I had the opportunity to experience Deep Impact's services directly as a client in various projects.

The goals we are pursuing with the Head of Ventures role perfectly align with my previous activities, my wealth of experience, and my ambition.

What aspect of your new role excites you the most?

Our products and services are technically top-tier and in some cases, shape their markets. Behind them are great people who are passionate about what they do. I am excited to contribute strategically and commercially to reaching the next level on this fertile ground.

Do you see potential for major changes in existing strategies?

Every company is different and faces its own challenges. Strategies must therefore adapt accordingly.

However, an important quote regarding strategy is: "Amateurs talk strategy, but professionals talk logistics." In our context, this means how we can make the biggest difference with the people, products, and services we have.

Which market opportunities do you want to unlock?

A major focus of my work from the outset will be on unlocking new market opportunities. I see this as a mix of action and foundational work:

Foundational work: Understanding the current market situation and making adjustments to segments.

Action: Leveraging existing momentum, increasing the frequency of action, and learning from practical feedback.

What innovative approaches do you want to introduce?

Deep Impact certainly doesn't lack innovation – there's still a lot for me to learn there. What I will bring is my experience from various roles in growth, internationalization, project management, and leadership.

Is there a past project that particularly inspired you?

There's a lot to tell, but the moments that truly stand out are always shaped by people:

• The all-nighter in Formula 1
• The days we got a company back on its feet after a total failure
• Going the extra mile to close a deal

I believe you have to like people, and that's exactly how you gain the experiences you bring to a new role.

What innovation excites you the most right now?

Space travel, robotics, generative AI – in no particular order.

Your professional motto?

"Do what is right" – having the courage to do the right thing, even if it sometimes hurts.
