Surviving the Crisis Through Digitalization

Whether Christian had Thai specialties, sushi, or Chinese delicacies on his plate is unknown to the editorial team... In any case, he was eating at the Smiling Fish in Winterthur shortly before the lockdown. After the meal, he spoke with the owner, Muoy Ung. In addition to the Smiling Fish in Winterthur, she owns other restaurants in Baden and Rapperswil. She was concerned: how would the impending closure of her restaurants affect her business?

Now it made sense to switch to online orders and home delivery. Smiling Fish already had an online delivery shop, but it was not optimized for mobile devices. Furthermore, the delivery shop was only set up for one of the four restaurants.

It quickly became clear to us: we would help here. Since speed was the top priority, we worked with WordPress templates. The postal code configuration was somewhat complicated, as delivery fees vary depending on the postal code. We solved this problem with a WordPress plug-in. Otherwise, we were able to create the shop without many specifications and thus went live with the first shop within a week. The shops for the other restaurants were, of course, implemented even faster afterward, as we already had this template.

We wanted to offer this solution to other restaurants or shops that had to close due to the lockdown. So, we quickly created a new offer. We were pleased to be able to help other SMEs, even as an SME ourselves.

A happy customer with her employees, who had enough to do, and 2000 full stomachs despite restaurant closures – that is the conclusion of our success story with Smiling Fish.

Smiling Fish owner Muoy Ung says:

"Deep Impact's quick reaction and rapid implementation of the online e-shops secured our survival."

We are pleased to have contributed to Smiling Fish being able to weather this crisis. Now the restaurants are open again, and the delivery shops, of course, continue to exist in addition. Enjoy your meal!
